Privacy policy
This policy describes JOS Video Research, a personal YouTube research application operated by JOS for its owner.
Google and YouTube data
With the owner's authorization, the application accesses YouTube playlists, playlist items, channel information, and video metadata. Private playlists are accessible only through the authorized account. The requested YouTube permission also allows playlist changes; the application uses these capabilities for owner-confirmed playlist actions.
How information is used
Information is used to synchronize the research queue, display videos and their sources, organize playlists, and produce research notes requested by the owner. JOS Video Research does not sell Google user data or use it for advertising.
AI processing and other services
When the owner requests a summary or briefing, relevant video metadata, transcripts or excerpts, and intermediate research content are sent to OpenAI through Codex for processing. Google OAuth access tokens and refresh tokens are not included in those research prompts. OpenAI's handling of submitted content is governed by the owner's OpenAI service settings and applicable terms.
The application communicates with Google and YouTube for authorization and data access. It may use transcript retrieval tools to obtain source text. The owner can explicitly export generated research to a local Obsidian vault.
Storage and retention
Application records, transcripts, generated notes, and backups are stored on the owner's computer. OAuth credentials are stored separately in files restricted to the owner's operating-system account. Research data remains until the owner removes it; removing live data does not automatically erase existing backups or exported copies.
Access, revocation, and deletion
The owner can revoke Google access using Google Account connections. Revocation stops future authorized API access but does not itself delete records already stored locally. The owner can stop synchronization and remove stored credentials, research data, backups, and exported copies from the relevant local storage.
Contact and updates
For questions about this personal application or its data, contact the developer using the support email displayed on the Google authorization screen. Material changes to these practices will be reflected in this policy and its update date.
